The loadout

Main handBloodhound’s Fang

Somber +10. Fixed Bloodhound’s Finesse; no affinity change.

Optional off handBrass Shield

No Skill lets the right-hand skill take priority. Put it away and two-hand when you want more Strength contribution.

Jump attacksClaw Talisman

Boosts ordinary jump attacks, not the skill because it happens to jump.

Skill damageShard of Alexander

Optional late reward.

RecoveryGreen Turtle Talisman

A useful early slot for long fights.

DefenseDragoncrest Greatshield Talisman

Use an earlier Dragoncrest variant until Elphael.

Armor & equipment load

Land of Reeds is a practical starting point. Add Knight pieces if they fit below 70% equipment load. Include the 11.5-weight sword and optional 7.0-weight shield in that check.

Flasks & Physick

Try 11 Crimson / 3 Cerulean with 14 total charges. Use Dexterity-knot early and Opaline Hardtear for a safer learning run; a stamina-oriented tear is a reasonable alternative. No spell buff is required.

Build it through the run

  1. 01

    Early · RL 20–40

Use the starting Uchigatana until 17 Dexterity and at least 12 Strength for two-handed Fang. Defeat Darriwil in Forlorn Hound Evergaol; Blaidd can help after his Mistwood meeting. Reach 18 Strength for one-handed use. Bring Vigor toward 30.

  2. 02

    Middle · RL 60–90

Buy early Somber stones from Iji and explore mines for later tiers. Vigor 40, Dexterity 35–40 and enough Endurance for medium load are more useful than rushing to the final damage spread. Learn both inputs of Finesse separately.

  3. 03

    Late · RL 120–150

Settle at the listed 30 STR / 64 DEX split, Vigor 60, and Somber +10. Finish Alexander’s quest if you want to emphasize Finesse. Use jumping attacks and single swings when a boss leaves too little time for the full skill.

Two inputs, two decisions

Bloodhound’s Finesse starts with a slash and retreat. Its heavy follow-up closes distance. Check what the enemy is doing before taking that follow-up; committing into the next combo undoes the benefit of the retreat.

A jump heavy is often the simpler answer when a boss finishes a slow overhead attack. With a shield, block a single manageable hit and guard counter only after the chain ends. Let stamina refill with the shield lowered.

The limitations

Bleed is extra damage, not the build’s only plan. Fang’s innate buildup does not justify spending points on Arcane. Wet conditions and enemy resistances can matter if you add a fire buff later.

Avoid backing yourself toward an arena wall: the retreating skill needs space. The current build has no incantations and no Shadow of the Erdtree dependencies.

Alternatives & adaptations

  • Keen Uchigatana +25 with Unsheathe gives faster, shorter recovery at less weight.
  • Bloodflame Blade is optional only after changing the spread to meet 12 FTH / 10 ARC and equipping a seal; the published 150 spread cannot cast it.
  • Against bleed immunity, retain Fang’s direct physical damage and stop chasing a hemorrhage proc. Arcane does not increase its bleed buildup because Fang has no Arcane scaling.
